The Hydrogen gas is forced through a catalyst made of platinum. When hydrogen atoms come in contact with platinum the electron separates from the proton. The electron is now free and attaches itself to the Anode conductor where it will be able to do work. The proton will not attach itself to the Anode but travels over to the PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane). Play animation again.
